Colleagues,

This proposal for EdTec is very welcome and indeed timely, at least in spirit. We should develop delibarate initiavies that will enhance the evolution of ICT in Uganda's defferent sectors. The most fundermental one is education. This is where innovation and creatively starts.

It is some of these competitions and mainstreaming of ICTs in education that will make the first major mailstone.

Could someone update me about the progress of ICT curriculum that we contributed to in developing at NCDC?

Regards, Meddie

Dear Mr. Mayanja,

Thanks so much for the EdTech Project proposal. To us it is a welcome idea.

I am not quite sure but I believe you are subscribed to the WorLD Uganda
list serve; this means you should be update with some of our
efforts/activities here. Your missions quite much correspond to what we are
trying to come up with  in our Computer Society that is under formation
having been born recently (1.4.2000). I strongly encourage your proposals
and efforts.

As for the project, I will let you know in a couple of weeks what we come
up with. We however have one unique running project. An Educational Play
focusing ICT. This is our own composition picking on various
topics/situations.

In line with your point 3 and 4 (as appearing below in the attachment), our
Computer Society has composed a play (45 min) rooted in ICT awareness and
technological demos. It is our interest to carry this play 'The Visual
Literacy' to educational forums, ICT related workshops, seminars,
conferences etc in order to promote the illustration and utilisation of
technology in Ugandan computer literacy circles. We are ready to carry this
play to a school, stage manage it under a tree (if need be) or exisiting
hall with a view to passing  on its technology content to our audience.

To us, this play is a running project. We expect to put captions of it
accompanied by literature in our web page to be acquired soon. Definately
we need some funding support to have this venture through.

How about introducing inter-school/institution drama competition with ICT
themes between schools/institutions at a later stage? Can your organisation
be of assistance in this direction?

Hoping to read/hear from you.

Bye.

Greetings WorLD Schools,

As you think about the EdTec Champion Project being initiated by Mr. Ayub Kalema Golooba, think about the hours of internet access you will need on the webserver to build up webpage content.

For schools still accessing internet via telephone dial-up, you need not give up! You will be sharing resources with your sister/brother schools who are accessing internet via wireless links. Here I am talking about Makerere College School, Kibuli Secondary School, Mengo Senior School, Namilyango College School and now Nkumba University. These are blessed with a 24/7 internet access. We shall be informing you of the arrangements.

In the meantime, for the schools who can really afford to go wireless faster that SchoolNet pace, please be encouraged to do so. It is absolutely acceptable!!! There will be a refund for half the ISP equipment cost. Go wireless if you can.....The schools I have mentioned have moved fast on their own and are enjoying a 24/7 internet access.

Allen.
